Head Start Director Major function:
The Education Specialist, under the supervision of the Head Start Director, is responsible for all aspects of the education component program requirements as outlined in the Head Start Federal Performance Standards as well as Texas Education Agency requirements.

Bachelor's Degree in Education with an Early Childhood Endorsement.
Classroom teacher experience.
Work experience in an Early Childhood Development setting preferred.
Responsibilities:
Provides guidance and support to classroom staff regarding appropriate early childhood education teaching strategies and child development Provides model teaching, classroom observations, peer coaching and works in conjunction with the Head Start Director to develop and monitor individual teacher support plans.
Organizes the development and annual review of the education component ensuring that parents and staff understand the Federal performance standards and the procedures for maintaining a compliant education component.
Oversees the implementation of the classroom curriculum ensuring that it is properly carried out in each classroom.
Oversees and carries out the strategies of the Head Start Literacy Family Literacy component.
Provides assistance and mentoring to staff involved in the Child Development Associate (CDA) program.
Develops and monitors all Classroom improvement plans.
Organizes and carries out Parent Involvement activities as outlined in the Head Start Education plan.
Provides day and evening early childhood education workshops for parents as needed.
Engages in component training activities which may require significant travel.
Acts as an early childhood information resource for parents and staff.
Serves as an advocate for quality programs for children and families Performs other duties as assigned by the Director.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
