Job Description:
Under general supervision, performs a variety of duties including investigations, enforce and resolve complaints about City codes and ordinances; prepares notices of violations and citations; and performs other related work as necessary.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Makes drive-by and on-site inspections of residential, industrial and/or commercial areas and notes possible violations.
Provides information to the public regarding city, state or federal codes, laws and ordinances.
Receives and investigates complaints regarding violations of municipal codes and ordinances, makes decisions and documents findings.
Initiates contacts with citizens to explain nature of violations and encourage compliance.
Meets with City officials and employees regarding complaints, including getting legal counsel, and to coordinate code enforcement activities.
Prepares notices of code violations and issues letters to property owners as appropriate.
Coordinates and conducts follow-up abatement procedures.
Maintains files and records related to citations and violations and prepares related reports and correspondence.
Inputs and retrieves data from the computer.
Qualifications High School Diploma or GED.
Must have work experience in the use of Microsoft Office software including Outlook.
Basic code enforcement registration or experience in code enforcement preferred.
Any combination equivalent to experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities will be considered.
Must possess a current valid Class C driver's license.
Must attain basic code enforcement officer registration within one year of employment.
Must be able to perform the essential job functions.
